, a very important one is its capability to be used as a very special kind of thermostat.
A traditional thermostat is a component of a control system which only senses the temperature of an environment in order to maintain it near a desired setpoint. Some chrono-thermostats activate their control only on certain time intervals, if you provide to them, in a tedious way, a static routine of the house
For us, this definition was far from complete. So we have quite simply changed the concept of the word "thermostat":
"A thermostat is now considered to be an integrated & transparent control system for appliances within your home"
This means you will almost never need to play with SRO's interface; it will control the environment according to your preferences without you telling it to.
SRO learns your home's occupational routines and predicts the times in which the house will be unoccupied.
With this prediction we can easily cut down energy bills by creating a warm & comfortable environment
only when you need it.
In order to do this, we will use various instruments that are able to sense light intensity, temperature, humidity and movement in different optimal positions around the house. From this point, our algorithms take over and analyse the data provided by the sensors.
These algorithms distinguish between three states: 'Home', 'Away' and 'Sleeping' and act accordingly. In 'Home' mode, the system will provide a comfortable environment while trying to predict whether the occupants will leave the house or go to sleep. The probabilistic database and the latest data from the sensors will reduce the time needed to change into these other modes while keeping the prediction reliable.
The 'Away' mode is essentially an energy-saving mode, which keeps the home's temperature above a safe level. It also anticipates your arrival in order to preheat your home.
In a similar way, the 'Sleeping' mode saves energy while you're asleep and gets the house ready for your morning routines.
For instance, at night-time, our system will turn down the heating by 2-4°C and turn off any unnecessary appliances only to turn them back on a short-enough time before the occupants wake up. In this way, it is always certain that you will find a warm environment to wake up to, hot water in the shower, etc. The system can be integrated with other appliances like coffee machines, televisions, radios, etc. so all you need to do in the mornings is have breakfast!
SRO cuts down your energy bills by controlling your home's heating system. It accurately decides in which "mode" your home is in, and acts accordingly:
